API Key Generator

Generate cryptographically secure API keys and random application secrets.

Keys are generated in the current session using cryptographically secure randomness and are not sent to the Brilliance API.

Simple lowercase hexadecimal representation. Two characters are produced for each random byte.
Choose between 16 and 128 random bytes. 32 bytes provides 256 bits of randomness.
Prefixes can identify the key type or environment, such as sk_live_ or pk_test_.
Generate between 1 and 50 keys at a time.

BEST PRACTICES

Protect API keys like passwords

Store production keys in a secrets manager, encrypted configuration store, or environment-specific secure vault.
Never commit live credentials to source control or embed them in publicly delivered browser code.
Use separate credentials for development, testing, staging, and production environments.
Scope each key to the minimum permissions and resources required by the application.
Rotate credentials according to your security policy and immediately when exposure or compromise is suspected.
Store only a secure hash of an API key when your application does not need to recover the original secret.
SECURITY

Randomness matters more than appearance

Strong API keys should be generated from a cryptographically secure random source. The format changes how the key is represented, but the underlying randomness determines the security of the secret.
