WCAG Contrast Checker
Check foreground and background color contrast for WCAG text accessibility requirements.
Contrast testing is one part of accessible design. Passing a contrast ratio does not by itself guarantee that a page or interface meets all WCAG requirements.
Understanding contrast requirements
Text size and conformance level determine the minimum contrast ratio required.
Standard-sized text generally requires at least 4.5:1 for AA and 7:1 for AAA.
Large text has lower minimum ratios because larger letterforms are generally easier to perceive.
Text contrast is not the only contrast requirement. Controls, focus indicators, icons, and meaningful graphics may have separate accessibility requirements.
Passing contrast does not remove the need for labels, icons, patterns, or other visual cues when color communicates meaning.
Contrast is only one accessibility check
Use this result alongside semantic markup, keyboard accessibility, focus visibility, text alternatives, responsive testing, and assistive-technology testing when evaluating a page or application.
